Why is Brita™ making bottled water? We thought you were against bottled water?
Brita™ is against single-use plastic water bottles, which are bad for people and bad for the environment. Plastic bottles leach micro-plastics into our water sources, overflow landfills and harm marine life ecosystems. It is predicted that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish if something isn’t done. As the leader in the fight to reduce plastic waste, Brita is introducing our premium purified Brita Water™ in convenient recyclable bottles made of infinitely recycled aluminum.
With great tasting Brita Water in a reusable and recyclable bottle, you are making the responsible choice to meet all of your hydration needs – now available while you’re on the go. And you can refill your Brita Water bottle at home, school or office with trusted Brita purification products for a full-day’s use. You can then easily recycle your bottle anywhere aluminum is accepted. Brita is proud to bring you bottled water that is better for people and the planet. When you take the great taste of Brita with you everywhere you go, you’re literally helping save the planet one sip at a time. -
Are Brita™ bottles recycleable?
Yes! After about 6 to 8 refills of our bottle, please recycle the bottle. Brita™ has made the conscious decision to place its premium, filtered water into a convenient, ready-to-go bottle made of 100% recyclable aluminum. So now you can enjoy great Brita taste without the worry or waste. In our everyday pursuits, Brita strives to make water better for people and our planet.

What is the cap made up of?
When you crack open our aluminum cap, you’ll hear the sound of refreshment. Our cap is made of 100% aluminum, and also includes a thin silicone insert designed to seal in freshness for years. We are always searching for the best solution to deliver the purest water and this thin, non-metal coating doesn’t mean that our caps won’t be accepted by metal recyclers, as they are usually are not an issue (2).
-
Can I refill my recyclable aluminum Brita™ Water bottle?
Yes! Your bottle of Brita™ can be hand washed and refilled for a full-day’s use. Refilling your bottle with filtered water from Brita’s pitchers and dispensers is the healthiest path to a full day of refreshing, hydrating water. Do not clean your bottle with a stiff brush, steel wool or an abrasive, which may damage the bottle. Never use the bottle in the dishwasher, microwave or with combustible liquids.

What are Brita™ Premium Purified Water's sustainability initiatives?
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Did you know that 2,000 plastic water bottles are used every second, or that a dump truck’s worth of plastic goes into our oceans every minute?* Incredibly, current projections show that there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by the year 2050†.
Compared to compostable food materials, plastic products can take hundreds of years to break down. In fact, plastic water bottles take 450 years to decompose.§ So although recycling is a great habit to make, it is best to reduce or reuse rather than rely on recycling alone, since plastic isn’t infinitely recyclable — there is a limited number of times that plastic can be reused to make new products. Pacific Institute estimates that between 32 and 54 million barrels of oil are needed to meet the annual demand for plastic bottled water products alone, and that’s just in the United States. The resulting greenhouse gas emissions are equivalent to over a million cars on the road. On top of that, plastic that accumulates in sea water, for example, can transfer contaminants to seabirds, fish, plants and other animals. Before you toss your empty plastic bottles, be sure to place in a recycling bin to do your part to reduce waste.
Fortunately there’s something we all can do to help, by committing to reduce, reuse and recycle. And we can support companies and products committed to reducing plastic waste. Brita Water™ works in partnership with global organizations including 1% for the Planet®, LOOP® and Ocean Cycle, all in the support of long-term, environmental solutions and in keeping ocean-bound plastic out of the environment. Visit www.britawater.com for more information on each of these important and on-going initiatives.
